When I started dreaming up Underjoy, I thought I knew exactly what I wanted: cotton underwear.
Like many women, I was searching for something soft, breathable, and comfortable enough for everyday wear. I wanted underwear made with natural fibers and designed for real life. For years, I bought mostly cotton styles. Some of my favorites were 100% cotton. They felt wonderful when they were new: soft against the skin, breathable, and easy to wear.
But over time, I noticed a pattern. After months of wear and washing, many pairs became stretched out and saggy. They no longer fit the way they had when I first bought them, and I found myself constantly adjusting them throughout the day.
The Problem with "More Cotton Is Better"
Cotton has earned its reputation for a reason. It's breathable, comfortable, and gentle against the skin. Those qualities made it non-negotiable when creating Underjoy.
But underwear has a different job than a T-shirt. It needs to move with your body throughout the day. It needs to stretch when you move and recover its shape when you don't. That's something 100% cotton doesn't always do well on its own.
As I researched fabrics and tested different options, I kept coming back to the same conclusion: the goal wasn't to use the most cotton possible. The goal was to create the most comfortable underwear possible.
That's why Underjoy uses a blend of 95% cotton and 5% spandex. The cotton provides the softness and breathability I was looking for, while the small amount of spandex helps the fabric maintain its shape, move comfortably with your body, recover after washing, and reduce sagging over time.
The result is a cotton-rich fabric that feels soft and natural while offering the flexibility everyday underwear needs.
Comfort Doesn't Have to Be Boring
I started Underjoy because I was looking for what I jokingly called the unicorn underwear: comfortable, breathable, flattering, and thoughtfully designed.
Along the way, I learned that creating it meant letting go of simple rules like "more cotton is always better."
What matters most is how something feels when you wear it.
And if we've done our job right, Underjoy will feel like the pair you've been searching for all along.
